Job Summary
Build working relationships with business and unit leaders across the organization, focusing in the areas of safety. Provide industrial hygiene services where applicable and develops and delivers programs to train employees in the fundamentals of occupational safety. Interprets and facilitates implementation of Corporate-wide policies and procedures relating to occupational safety and actively works with business unit leaders to identify, promote and recognize safe work practices.
The Safety Consultant position is part of a job family (Associate Safety Consultant, Safety Consultant, Sr Safety Consultant), experience and education will be the determining factor.
Job Responsibilities
- Collect, analyze, and interpret existing, new and emerging safety regulations to initiate and lead corporate compliance strategies
- Demonstrate ability to lead team efforts on initiatives that span across multiple business units/organizational areas
- Develop (or facilitate diverse teams) to develop programs, policies and procedures and lead implementation to assure the safety of personnel while controlling company losses
- Analyze safety performance indicators to identify trends, improvement opportunities, or specific intervention needs, and provide consultation from an expert perspective to achieve effective solutions
- Assure effective implementation of safety programs through auditing, inquiry, observation, and networking, leveraging the best practices
- Design and implement comprehensive industrial hygiene programs to assure regulatory compliance and protection of employee health from dusts, fumes, vapors, noise, etc
- Identify needs, develop and deliver fundamental, technical, or customized safety training programs tailored to various levels within the organization, utilizing outside resources where applicable
- Lead, participate, and/or consult on various corporate and business unit safety committees, task forces and/or safety meetings
- Conduct accident investigations and make recommendations to prevent new or recurring accidents
- Acts as a source for safety equipment consultation and information for the BU
- Provides current and past safety statistics relative to lagging (e.g., injury/illness or motor vehicle accidents) and leading indicator information
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with facility employees and department leaders
- Serve on local safety committees while offering expert perspective on safety issues
- Support diversity by actively seeking out and encouraging diversity in perspective and by establishing an environment of inclusion
- May provide work direction to Safety Student and/or Associate Consultant(s) as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- Associate Safety Consultant: entry level position for which safety or utility experience in lieu of a degree may be considered. In order to be hired into or progress to the consultant/sr consultant levels in the job family, a candidate must have a bachelor's degree
- Safety Consultant: 3+ years of safety experience; utility experience desired
- Sr Safety Consultant: 7+ years of safety or related experience; utility experience desired
- Bachelors Degree required in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Health Science and Wellness, Risk Management or related major
Preferred Qualifications
- Electric trade/operations experience
- Substation operations experience

Pay Range Minimum: $68,436.68
Pay Range Maximum: $135,761.08
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
