Senior Corporate Counsel

WEC Business Services, LLC, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Senior Corporate Counsel, Contracts to join the Legal Services Team.  This position can be located at either our Milwaukee, WI or Chicago, IL location.

Job Summary

 

This position will support broad areas of the Company, including procurement and operations teams by drafting, negotiating, and managing a wide range of commercial agreements affecting utility operations. This role focuses on complex supply chain and other contracts, including equipment procurement, construction and maintenance services, technology, and long‑term supply arrangements, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements applicable to the utility industry and internal governance standards.

 

The attorney will serve as a trusted legal advisor to business partners, balancing commercial objectives with legal risk management, reliability obligations, and regulatory considerations, to support the Company’s strategic priorities.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Review, analyze and negotiate complex supply chain and procurement agreements, including master supply and purchase agreements and agreements relating to marketing, professional services, information technology, power generation and supply, maintenance, construction and development, and commodities
  • Develop and negotiate contract terms addressing pricing, delivery, performance standards, warranties, indemnities, insurance, limitations of liability, force majeure, and termination
  • Interpret and explain contract terms and conditions to internal stakeholders and clients
  • Advise stakeholders on contract structure, risk allocation and legal compliance
  • Identify legal, operational and supply risks, and provide recommendations to mitigate such risks
  • Support contract interpretation, dispute resolution and claims management related to supplier and contractor relationships
  • Work with internal stakeholders and other members of the legal team as needed to finalize specialized contractual provisions, legal documentation and contracts
  • Ensure contracts align with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Build relationships with internal stakeholders and clients in order to effectively support the company’s business objectives
  • Provide proactive legal advice and training on various matters, including contract and risk management
  • Support development and maintenance of standard contract templates and negotiation guidelines for commercial agreements
  • Assist with the development and refinement of the Company’s contract lifecycle management processes and policies
  • Stay current on relevant laws and regulations that affect the company’s operations

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law and in good standing in at least one U.S. state bar/jurisdiction
  • 4-7+ years relevant legal experience, including significant experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements
  • Experience with a broad range of commercial contracts

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Experience with public utility or energy service provider a plus

Pay Range Minimum:  $158,297.88 

Pay Range Maximum:  $237,447.08 

 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
