Intern - Safety and Industrial Hygiene (Milwaukee, WI)
WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking an Intern - Safety and Industrial Hygiene (Milwaukee, WI) in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location. This internship is full-time during the Summer of 2025 with the potential to work part-time during the academic year. The hourly rate for this internship is $19.80 with paid company holidays. This position offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement (remote/on-site) with time spent in the Milwaukee office.
Job Summary
HR Safety and Health provides employee safety and health support for business units such as Power Generation (PG). HR Safety and Health provides safety support for PG at our subsidiaries and the gas storage facilities with the goal of reducing risk to employees via auditing, observations, review of leading and lagging indicator data review, employee exposure monitoring and communication support (e.g., Safety Alerts/Bulletins, monthly safety topics or ad hoc safety topic development).
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct Health & Safety Initiatives.
- Conduct industrial hygiene exposure monitoring for various physical, biological and chemical agents to determine employee exposures.
- Audit health and safety performance through observation and inquiry.
- Identify improvement opportunities and inform facility management of issues and solutions.
- Act as a professional resource for all levels of employees while providing support services on health and safety.
- Deliver health and safety training programs and materials.
- Assist in the development and implementation of procedures, policies, and programs relating to health and safety.
- Assist Health & Safety Consultants with program development and implementation.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with facility employees and department leaders.
- Aid in the collection of Industrial Hygiene exposure data including noise, heat stress, respirable crystalline silica and lead in the power generation fleet.
- Collect data to ensure compliance of the OSHA National Emphasis Program on heat stress
As a Safety Intern you will learn:
- Field-level industrial hygiene
- Safety protocol and procedure
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma, HSED, or GED
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Public Health, or a closely related degree with a graduation date after June 2025.
- Valid driver’s license
- Minimum GPA of 2.8
