Gas Buyer/Planner

WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Gas Buyer/Planner in one of our Chicago, IL, Green Bay, WI or Milwaukee, WI locations.

 

The Gas Buyer/Planner should have a background in data science and/or analytics. 

 

This position is part of a job family (Associate Gas Buyer, Gas Buyer, Senior Gas Buyer) and experience will be the determining factor.

Job Summary

As a Gas Buyer/Planner you will manage daily and monthly utility natural gas portfolios along with forecasting utility peak day demand. You will be responsible for the short term management of liquefied natural gas, fuel oil and propane supply for the portfolio.

 

The Gas Buyer/Planner may rotate between portfolios. This position must work weekends and evening hours on a rotating basis.

Job Responsibilities

  • Utilize historical and statistical information to run regressions to forecast utility peak day demand
  • Create meaningful data visualizations to clearly and effectively communicate forecast results
  • Forecast daily demand using forecasting models, graphical and statistical analysis
  • Develop daily gas nominations plan and implement plan through actual nominations to pipelines, storage operators, gas utility, and suppliers in compliance with appropriate tariffs
  • Work with traders and schedulers representing gas suppliers, pipelines and storage operations, as well as internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate gas volumes are scheduled at delivery points
  • Document all transactions and reconcile with pipeline data in conjunction with Finance to ensure accurate and timely data is available for Accounting and Billing purposes
  • Develop daily (and monthly) buying, selling, and capacity release strategies by combining knowledge of supply needs and contractual rights with insights into the daily market. Implement trading strategies by negotiating monthly and daily trading (buying and selling) and/or capacity release
    Work with internal stakeholders to ensure proper utilization of contractual assets as well as support reliability and cost goals by best managing storage inventories and other asset utilization
  • Support regulatory filing requirements
  • Maintain working knowledge of pipeline tariffs, services, and contracts

Minimum Qualifications

Associate Gas Buyer

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science or related discipline with proven statistical knowledge. A minimum of two years equivalent natural gas buying/scheduling experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and excellent teamwork skills required


Gas Buyer/Senior Gas Buyer

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, or related discipline with 1-3 years of experience with commodity procurement or scheduling experience. 5-10 years equivalent natural gas buying/scheduling experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's Degree
  • Fundamental knowledge of LDC (gas utilities) systems and/or power generation systems
  • Knowledge of gas markets 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of financial risk management concepts
  • Strong background in statistical analysis

Pay Range Minimum:  $76,932.70 

Pay Range Maximum:  $165,332.96 

 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
