Environmental Laboratory Scientist
WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking an Environmental Laboratory Scientist (Environmental Consultant) in our Milwaukee, Wisconsin location.

Job Summary
The Environmental Consultant provides expertise to the Laboratory Services team and is a vital part of our environmental compliance and permitting support for our internal utility customers. This position is a subject matter expert with responsibility for ensuring the safety of laboratory operations, including providing technical work coordination and training of laboratory technicians in safely performing analytical chemistry methods.
The Laboratory Services team provides analytical chemistry support for our utility operations, including consulting services for the Environmental Department, Power Generation, Customer Service and Operations, and other parts of WEC Energy Group. Our in-house laboratory is staffed with chemistry experts that have a deep understanding of the specialized needs of our utility operations in both the generation and distribution areas.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure that the analytical chemistry lab needs of WEC Energy Group internal clients are met in terms of required quality, legal defensibility, timeliness, and cost effectiveness using both in-house capabilities and external resources
- Coordinate activities to maintain state laboratory certification
- Provide work direction, training and mentoring to team members
- Analyze and resolve complex problems, utilize a structured approach, and expedite problem resolution
- Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with clients, customers and key stakeholders
- Balance client requests with available resources and operational directives of team
- Utilize planning, scheduling and resource management expertise to effectively manage projected workload
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors’ Degree in Physical Sciences, Environmental Science, Engineering or related discipline
- 2+ years’ of related experience with demonstrated ability to perform the requirements of the position or some combination of an advanced degree in physical sciences, environmental sciences, engineering or related field and years of experience
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management System
- Strong communication and analytical skills, organizational skills, leadership qualities and overall knowledge of state and federal regulations
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of related experience
- Experience with Labworks
- Knowledge of utility industry

Pay Range Minimum: $76,932.70
Pay Range Maximum: $152,615.06
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
