Job Summary
The Commodity Specialist is responsible for establishing and implementing procurement strategies for specific commodity groups, managing day-to-day business unit/department requirements, and establishing / managing contracts for specific commodities or services. Works with others in Procurement and Logistics to ensure that all requirements for materials and services are handled according to corporate and customer requirements.
This position is part of a job family (Associate Commodity Specialist, Commodity Specialist, Senior Commodity Specialist) and experience will be the determining factor.
Job Responsibilities
- Procurement of all materials and services within assigned commodity group(s), utilizing a variety of tools including eProcurement tools.
- Establish and apply a wide range of sourcing strategies to assigned commodity groups.
- Work with clients to establish priorities and manage demand
- Establish and manage existing contracts with suppliers
- Qualify suppliers
- Track supplier performance
- Prepare and lead negotiations with suppliers
- Manage supplier transitions as part of contract implementation
- Participate in cross-functional procurement teams
- Identify and implement process improvements
- Drive continuous improvement as part of contract management process
- Actively seek and utilize minority-, women-, service disabled-, veteran-owned and small businesses to support and achieve corporate goalss
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or related discipline
- The Commodity Specialist requires minimum of 2 years of related experierence and demonstrated ability to:
- Perform sourcing functions and processes independently with minimal oversight from department leaders
- Lead procurement projects with significant scopes and value, including cross functional team management and project management skills
- Prioritize work to meet the needs of internal clients
- Build effective relationships with peers, internal customers, and suppliers
- Identify and capture process improvement and cost reduction opportunities
- Organization and preparation skills to lead complex negotiations with suppliers

- Demonstrates a high-level attention to detail by consistently producing accurate, thorough and high-quality work
- Carefully reviews information, identifies discrepancies and ensures completeness across all tasks and deliverables

Pay Range Minimum: $68,436.68
Pay Range Maximum: $135,761.08
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
