Intern - Energy Efficiency

WBS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking an Intern - Energy Efficiency in our Chicago, Illinois location. This internship is full-time during the Summer of 2026 with the potential to work part-time during the academic year. The hourly rate for this internship is $20.30 - $22.00 with paid company holidays. This position offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement (remote/on-site) with time spent in the Chicago AON office.

Job Summary

We employ students for summer and year-round opportunities to help our company’s mission to deliver energy in an affordable, safe and reliable manner. WEC Energy Group offers a variety of opportunities for students that are currently enrolled in a four-year degree program. 


The Energy Efficiency Student Intern will work closely with the entire Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas Energy Efficiency Team to help our customers engage in environmentally friendly activities. The intern will have the opportunity to experience multiple areas of work including: Marketing and communication, business administration, policy, and/or engineering work. The position is designed to be tailored to the intern’s interests as well as the overall needs of our department, allowing for the adaptation of some functions and engagement as well as dedicated opportunities to explore the overall work of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas.

Job Responsibilities

  • Support staff on projects while developing skills, technical expertise, interpersonal and communication skills, and project management skills
  • Build working knowledge within their field through exposure to a variety of daily tasks, and projects

 

This Internship can expect to work daily on multiple aspects of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas energy efficiency programs. This work includes: Supporting the team with marketing, communication and administrative tasks, working independently on assigned projects and collaborating with leaders and managers throughout the team on ongoing work such as projects, research, documenting and/or organizing program materials. This position will allow the intern to learn and understand the work of Illinois energy efficiency programs as well as the work of Peoples Gas and North Shore Gas as a utility to the Chicagoland Region. Additionally, the position will provide opportunities to work collaboratively with interns from other departments on larger, summer long, projects that analyze specific functions of the company

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or HSED
  • Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Marketing, Communications, Business, Environmental Science, Data Science, Political Science, Public Policy, Journalism, or closely related major with a graduation date after June 2026
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8

Preferred Qualifications

  • Junior or Senior
  • Interest in learning about energy / energy efficiency
  • Relevant coursework
  • Self-starter with skills in project coordination, follow-through and problem solving
  • Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and pay attention to detail
  • Proficient in standard office software (i.e. MS PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Excel, OneNote, SharePoint etc.)

Pay Range Minimum:  $20.30

Pay Range Maximum:  $23.34

 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
