Job Summary

The Operations Chemistry & Lab Attendant assists in ensuring plant chemistry and environmental conditions are maintained at optimal levels to comply with various regulations and to control corrosion by performing chemical analyses, adjusting equipment sampling, testing, and treating water and maintaining laboratory records.

This position ensures continuous generation of electricity by operating, monitoring, and maintaining air, solids and water environmental equipment and systems within design specifications and by using appropriate procedures and policies.
 

Job Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, adjust, maintain records for, and troubleshoot plant air, solids and water environmental control systems in accordance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations.  
  • Collect, analyze, report results, and maintain records of samples for assigned plant systems.  Sampling and analysis includes but is not limited to river water, boiler water, wastewater, air, hazardous materials, ash and other process operating parameters as required. Initiate corrective action on the basis of these results to minimize plant impacts.  Maintain the laboratory to a standard necessary to accommodate all required testing and regulatory reporting.
  • Monitor assigned plant air, solids and water environmental control systems equipment by following set standards for inspection. This includes comparing real time operational information with expected, performing roving visual and audio equipment surveillance to identify equipment malfunction and/or improvement opportunities, and to identify any safety concerns. Take appropriate corrective action as needed based on this monitoring including issuing work requests for repair or investigation. 
  • Operate assigned plant air, solids and water environmental control systems equipment within design specifications using procedures and policies. Prepare and verify tagouts and isolate equipment on systems where qualified.  When needed, use appropriate isolation procedures and hold carding process. 
  • Create and update operational procedures when required. Attend and participate in training activities when required.  Perform necessary cleaning and housekeeping tasks as needed to create a safe and hazard free work place. Perform on the job training for others. 
  • Regularly communicate conditions of plant chemistry and environmental control systems to affected departments through written and verbal means. Determine cause of plant chemistry cycle upsets and initiate corrective actions to maintain cycle chemistry at optimal conditions.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Water Chemistry or Environmental Science or equivalent Armed Forces training.  
  • Experience in laboratory techniques and environmental control facility operation. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Certificate in Wastewater Facility Operations is preferred. 
  • Experience performing chemical analysis of water and operating wastewater facilities is desirable.

Minimum Posting Range:  $40.36 

Maximum Posting Range:  $52.01 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
