Co-Op - Power Generation Engineering

WPS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Power Generation Engineering Co-Op in our Wausau, Wisconsin location. This role has an optional start of (January 2026 through August) or (June 2026 through January). The starting hourly rate for this position is $22.00 with paid company holidays.

Job Summary

Your co-op experience offers real-world experience through hands-on work in your field of study.

Job Responsibilities

 

This program gives students the opportunity to preview the work environment in their field of study and: 
•    Apply classroom learning
•    Combine engineering science with communications and team-building skills
•    Receive hands-on experience 

Engineer co-ops working at the Weston Power Plant will gain experience in plant and project engineering, as well as planning, technical support and environmental compliance activities. Students will assist in evaluating equipment and system performance, while maintaining reliability, safety and regulatory compliance. The Engineer co-op will be working in, and learning about, generation at the Weston (coal-fired) Power Plant.
 
Co-op Additional Details


•    This co-op term is for approximately 8 months (January-August or June-January).
•    This co-op is part of a five person engineering team at the plant.


The Weston Power Plant is located in central Wisconsin near the city of Wausau.

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma, GED, or HSED 
  • Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8
     

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to learn quickly 
  • Good decision making 
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and complete projects 
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)

Pay Range Minimum:  $22.00 

Pay Range Maximum:  $26.24 

 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
