Line Apprentice 1 - Multiple Locations
WPS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking Line Apprentice 1 or higher positions. These positions could be located at any of the following sites: Antigo, Chilton, Coleman, Green Bay, Merrill, Minocqua, Oshkosh, Rhinelander, Stevens Point, Sturgeon Bay, Two Rivers, Wabeno and Wausau.
These positions are represented by Local No. 420 IUOE.
Job Responsibilities
- Work in accordance with all Company safety rules and established work methods, following all Company policies
- Learn proper work methods and safety rules for all crew members
- Operate automotive and power equipment in a safe and efficient way
- Make minor repairs to automotive and power equipment when necessary; complete all necessary paperwork required to keep automotive and power equipment in good working condition
- Follow all construction standards, policies, and work methods
- Perform minor substation duties
- Follow all procedures to account for materials and tools
- Prepare all forms, records, and written correspondence for completion of each job or task
- Use material pre-loading procedures, and load and unload necessary materials
- Perform tree trimming and obtain permission from customers
- Work on meter installations
- Help with load investigations, voltage, and other customer complaint problems
- Perform streetlight work
- Help with investigations of communication interference complaints
- Locate underground facilities
- Make customer contact on work-related items
- Inspect contractor installations as requested by supervisor
- Help perform engineering-type studies such as load and voltage surveys
- Assist in restoration of gas service
- Participate in safety meetings
- Work on jobs unrelated to normal duties as conditions require
- Perform miscellaneous inspections to equipment and electric plant
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma
- Technical Diploma in Electrical Power Distribution or equivalent
- Open to considering March/May 2026 graduates
- Some previous electrical, construction, or maintenance experience
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid CDL or be able to obtain one within six months
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of electrical, construction, or maintenance experience
- Experience working in a construction field and/or working outdoors
- Have a current valid CDL
Testing Requirements
- Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST): Comprehension of pictured mechanical principles such as gears, levers, pulley systems, water flow, etc.; arithmetic skills in calculating distances shown in prints and drawings; and the ability to read and understand written material.
- Working Aloft Test (ALOFT): A one-day test of exercises simulating critical tasks performed on the job of a Line Apprentice. This includes tying knots; climbing poles (up to 60 feet); performing tasks while on the pole such as turning/reaching, carrying and installing cross-arm, installing service wire; and other physical tasks on the ground and on a pole. Instructions for performing the tasks and safety equipment will be provided.

Minimum Posting Range: $38.60
Maximum Posting Range: $57.91
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
