Engineer

WPS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking an Engineer in our Green Bay, Wisconsin or Milwaukee, Wisconsin locations. This position currently offers flexibility for a hybrid work arrangement (remote/on-site) with time spent in the office.

 

This position is part of a job family (Associate Engineer, Engineer, and Senior Engineer) where experience will be the determining factor.

Job Summary

This is a unique engineering role with a focus on the relationship between third party communication attachers and the WEC Energy Group.  The engineer in this role will need to become the subject matter expert on all standards, codes, regulations and internal workflows that apply to the attachment of communication facilities on utility owned poles, as well as the subject matter expert on all issues related to the interaction between communication and Company assets.  It is a role that will have varied priorities driven by communication company’s initiatives.  We are looking for an individual that is not only strong in their grasp of engineering concepts but also one who can communicate and negotiate effectively with others who have different priorities than the company.

Job Responsibilities

  • Understand and be able to communicate applicable codes, standards and regulations to the parties wishing to attach communications assets to Company poles.  Provide assistance and training when necessary. Work in conjunction with standards engineering groups to interpret these in accordance with Company policies and initiate changes when necessary.
  • Work closely with Field Operations to ensure that FCC timelines are being met on projects requiring changes to distribution assets that will allow for the safe and code compliant attachment of communication facilities, aka “Make Ready”. 
  • Provide joint use related training to internal and external groups.
  • Develop new processes and programs that will increase efficiencies related to the Company’s interactions with any work related to the overhead or underground communications installations, operations and maintenance. 
  • Drive towards negotiated settlements with third party communication companies that benefit the Company and align with Company goals and policies.  Negotiated settlements may be required in relation to contractual agreements, payment for services performed by the Company, FCC requirements, communication facility placement on Company poles or buried in rights of way, and many other potential issues that arise.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Valid driver’s license and meet the company’s requirements for driving

  • Utility knowledge
  • Knowledge of the communications industry
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work on varying tasks at the same time

Pay Range Minimum:  $66,898.00 

Pay Range Maximum:  $132,708.94 

 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
