Job Summary
The Operations Manager is responsible for various field operational activities in Customer Operations. These activities vary depending on their assignment but could include: managing electric or gas construction and maintenance activities and providing direct supervision of the electric/gas supervisory staff in an Area; identifying and implementing strategic direction and best practices in Customer Operations relating to field operations and resource management including the scheduling of work (internal/external) and the strategic management of the contracted workforce. In all cases the main focus of the Operations Manager is operational safety, customer satisfaction, financial accountability and resource management.
In addition, the Operations Manager may be called on to perform other roles including: Incident Commander; Company Resource Manager; Area Restoration Director and Utility Mutual Assistance Coordinator.
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure that all work is performed according to safety rules, work procedures and construction standards and according to the engineered design
- Ensure the safe operation of our distribution facilities and maintain prompt response to emergencies
- Ensure Customer Satisfaction goals are met and customer concerns are addressed promptly related to construction activities
- Ensure work force is effectively trained so as to develop employee skills as well as meet all legal requirements for training
- Provide direct reports with training and work experience opportunities necessary to ensure personal success.
- Monitor and manage workload and schedule to meet required by dates. Work with all areas to share resources as necessary.
- Develop and implement innovative construction and maintenance practices to reduce costs and improve efficiency
- Ensure effective management of construction contracts and contractors
- Provide strategic direction for contracted labor resources
- Provide direction and support to engineering, expediting and construction to achieve departmental and Area goals for on-time service installations, reliability and budgets
- Provide oversight of work scheduling and resource allocation either globally or within an Area depending on assignment
- Establish, monitor and manage key business process, metrics and cost controls to achieve construction and operational goals
- Monitor, manage and control operational budgets to meet budgetary goals of Customer Operations and the Area
- Develop and implement staffing plan
- Provide leadership during escalated events (storms, outages, other emergency situations)
- Fill leadership roles as necessary (Area Manager, Manager of Customer Service, Operations Supervisor, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline is desired. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of five years of electric/gas distribution construction and maintenance experience in a leadership role is required
- 5 years of supervisory experience and knowledge of field operations are required
- Valid Drivers License

Pay Range Minimum: $117,004.94
Pay Range Maximum: $175,507.54
The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs. At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
