Job Summary

 

The Gas Distribution Designer will be responsible for the design of distribution systems for construction and maintenance by providing constructions plans, preparing construction costs, creating material requirements, processing work requests and preparing documents. The main focus of this position is design of new gas service to Industrial, Commercial and Residential customers along with gas system upgrades of 6” and smaller gas mains. This position also is responsible for communicating with customers and construction personnel as well as responding to emergency situations.

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Plan, design, estimate, and manage the construction of new gas facilities and replacement including mains, services industrial meter sets & regulator settings. Prepare specific work orders as needed and acquire necessary permits. Manage construction and maintenance projects to ensure compliance with job plans standards and procedures. Work in conjunction with Gas Engineering to assist in the development of future distribution system plans and budgets
  • Communicate and work with customers, construction personnel, and governmental agencies regarding natural gas, natural gas service, and natural gas distribution issues. Apply state and local codes related to gas distribution safety. Apply and enforce MGU policies related to gas service and safety. Assist plumbers, piping contractors, HVAC dealers and customers. Assist marketing representatives in determining the locations for new facilities, installation and repair of gas facilities. Work with appropriate governmental agencies in the coordination of gas facilities construction, maintenance and repair
  • Evaluate new and existing commercial and industrial service applications for new and/or changing gas loads. Determine proper service sizes. Assist in the design of meter sets for appropriate loads. Review for approval requested delivery pressures. Complete gas application and large meter check sheets with appropriate engineering data. Assist in the inspection of installation of regulation and metering equipment according to company standards and procedures.
  • Provide technical expertise and assistance to gas department personnel. Assist Operations Supervisor with the preparation of work schedules. Assist with Gas Engineering to develop new work procedures and methods
  • Respond to and direct site response to emergency situations involving the natural gas distribution system
  • Other duties as requested

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma, HSED, or GED
  • 1+ years of Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) or related Design/Drafting experience
  • Must possess and maintain valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Associate's Degree or Certificate in Drafting & Design
  • Ability to read and interpret construction designs
  • Experience writing procedures
  • Experience working for a utility company

Pay Range Minimum:  $36.99 

Pay Range Maximum:  $55.48 

 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
