Fleet Mechanic

WPS, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Fleet Mechanic in our Minocqua, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by Local No. 420 IUOE.

Work Hours: Monday-Friday: 7:00am - 3:00pm

Job Summary

 

The Fleet Mechanic ensures proper repair and upkeep of automotive and other special equipment stationed at assigned locations by performing preventive maintenance inspection and servicing, machining operations, critical welding, vehicle body repair and painting, tire repairs, and vehicle cleaning. 

Job Responsibilities

 

  • Perform type "A", "B", and Aerial preventive maintenance inspection and servicing:
    • lubricate chassis                                                 
    • change engine oil and filters                                     
    • check all fluid levels                                            
    • inspect brake assemblies                                          
    • tune engines                                                      
    • service cooling systems                                           
    • service automatic transmissions                                   
    • perform operational, condition, and safety inspection of vehicle
    • perform Aerial inspections and repairs in compliance with ANSI, OSHA, and DOT requirements  
  • Diagnose, service, adjust, repair, replace, rebuild, and overhaul various vehicle parts and components
  • Perform required machining operations:                                
    • resurface brake drums and rotors                                  
    • hone brake cylinders                                              
    • bore cylinders                                                    
    • grind valves                                                                        
  • Complete miscellaneous garage office duties:                          
    • keep records and prepare reports                                  
    • purchase and maintain stock of parts and supplies
    • update and enter data in current automotive computerized management system                   
  • Perform oxygen acetylene, electric arc critical welding, and hard facing
  • Modify, transfer, repair, and paint steel, aluminum, and fiberglass vehicle bodies
  • Change and repair tires
  • Clean and wash vehicles and work equipment
  • Assist with garage employee training programs to advance knowledge and skill level

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • High School Diploma, HSED or GED
  • 2.5+ years of automotive garage experience
  • 1+ years of computer experience 
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic repair and welding 
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must maintain a CDL License or be able to obtain a CDL within six months of hire

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Technical degree in automotive mechanics is preferred
  • ASE Certified or the ability to become ASE Certified is preferred

Testing Requirements

 

  • Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST): Comprehension of pictured mechanical principles such as gears, levers, pulley systems, water flow, etc.; arithmetic skills in calculating distances shown in prints and drawings; and the ability to read and understand written material.

Minimum Posting Range:  $46.33 

Maximum Posting Range:  $53.26 

 

The pay range reflects the minimum and maximum for the position at the time of posting and may be modified in the future. The starting salary/pay within the pay range will be based on several factors, as applicable, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, travel requirements, collective bargaining agreements, and business and organizational needs.  At WEC Energy Group, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
